Chipmakers are enjoying rapid sales growth as watches, cars and homes join smartphones, tablets and other consumer electronics that run on semiconductors. Worldwide chip sales rose 8% and reached a quarterly record of $87 billion in Q3, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association. And industry tracker Gartner forecasts worldwide semiconductor sales this year to increase nearly 7% to $336 billion.
