Major averages finished with more losses Tuesday after a late-session rally faded by the close. The Nasdaq fell 1.8% early, shaved its loss to 0.5% in late trading, but ended 1.3% lower. The S&P 500 gave up 0.9% and the Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.7%. Preliminary data showed NYSE and Nasdaq volume coming in higher than Monday. February crude oil lost another 4.2% to settle at $47.93 a barrel, its lowest level since April 2009.
