Stocks backed off session highs Monday, but were still nicely higher in early afternoon trading. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones industrial average each rose 0.4%. while the Nasdaq added 0.2%. Gains for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hit 0.7% intraday. Turnover was mixed in the stock market today . Nasdaq trade was running 7% high and NYSE volume was tracking 5% lower.
