Amazon buys gamer website twitch for $970 million
Jeff Bezos is ramping up Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN)’s entertainment ambitions, buying video-game service Twitch Interactive Inc. in one of its biggest-ever acquisitions. Amazon said it’s paying $970 million in cash for the online gathering place for gamers. The deal, which trumped Google Inc.’s pursuit of the startup, is worth about $1.1 billion when including retention-related payouts, said a person familiar with the deal, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private.

WHO urges stiff regulatory curbs on e-cigarettes
The World Health Organization (WHO) stepped up its war on “Big Tobacco” on Tuesday, calling for stiff regulation of electronic cigarettes as well as bans on indoor use, advertising and sales to minors. The treaty recommends price and tax measures to curb demand as well as bans on tobacco advertising and illicit trade in tobacco products. In the report, the WHO said there are 466 brands of e-cigarettes and the industry represents “an evolving frontier filled with promise and threat for tobacco control”.
