The stock market today staked out a mixed open and then quickly turned positive in quiet trade. The Nasdaq erased an early slip and rose 0.2%. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones industrial average also added 0.2%. The Russell 2000 lagged with a fractional gain. Volume was down 28% on the Nasdaq and 14% lower on the NYSE compared with the same time Thursday.
