Small caps led the way down midday Tuesday, as the major indexes stayed near the break-even line.
The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 each shaved off 0.1%. The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 0.2%, but the small-cap Russell 2000 dropped 0.7%. Volume in the stock market today was up on an easy comparison. Friday’s turnover was the slowest in about six weeks as trading slowed ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.
The stock market was closed Monday.
