Stocks rose by a wide margin last week, despite a surprising result in the U.S. presidential election that originally sent markets plunging. By the end of the week the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) had gained over 5% to reach a new record high. The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) added 4% to bring its year-to-date gain to 6%.
