China ended the week with its stock markets closed and the country immersed in its Mid-Autumn Festival. But two big and apparently contradictory pieces of data arrived before the market closed there last week.
Official data released Tuesday showed industrial output increased a better-than-forecast 6.3% in August. Retail sales vaulted 10.6%, topping projections for a mild uptick to 10.3%.
