Stock indexes strengthened in late-afternoon trading Friday as a strong November jobs report pretty much slammed the door on a rate hike at the December 15-16 Fed meeting. The Dow Jones industrial average, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all rose 1.9%. Small caps lagged, with the Russell 2000 up 0.9%. Volume on the NYSE and Nasdaq was tracking close to Thursday’s levels.
