Companies in the S&P 500 paid a record $376 billion in dividends over the trailing 12-month period ended in January, according to an analyst report from FactSet. Apple (AAPL) and Exxon Mobil (XOM) topped all other components paying out more than $11 billion each. The tech giant’s large dollar payout doesn’t translate to a high yield, however. At 1.5%, Apple’s yield is below the S&P 500 trailing 12-month yield of 1.9%.
