Amid year-end profit-taking on Wednesday, U.S. stock mutual funds lost 0.68% in the latest week, which ended Dec. 31. Their down week cut their return for all of 2014 to a 7.56% gain. That gain by the category, which is focused on investing in U.S. stocks, was less than one-fourth the category’s 2013 gain. The week’s setback stopped the rally by U.S. diversified stock funds after two weeks.
