We have two and a half winners in my gap quiz from Friday.
We’ve got two people tied for the winning spot in my gap guessing compo.
Both 5Magics and Chris picked 1.0850 for the opening number, which was 1.0859 by Bloomberg’s print. 9 pips, very impressive.

It’s been a time to pause and reflect this morning after the fun n games in Asia following the French election first round result.

Here’s what’s also looming for the forex options market before the week-end

– EURUSD: 1.0790-1.0800 (EUR 1.4bln) 1.810-20 (385m) 1.0990-1.1000 (470m)

From my understanding straddle price should increase going into earnings (due to rise in IV), and should be able to offset if not overcome theta decay.

However, Tasty trade has covered this topic and mentioned that straddles do not increase in value despite IV increasing going into earnings:

It’s all about the big sigh of relief
One thing we were monitoring in the run up to the elections was the volatility indicators. EURJPY was where we saw a large amount of risk covering, which drove vols through the roof.
