Warehouse specialist Costco Wholesale (NASDAQ: COST) has been a giant in the retail world, mastering its own niche and finding ways to profit that competitors have found difficult to match. However, even Costco has had challenges to overcome recently, and coming into its fiscal first-quarter financial report on Wednesday night, Costco investors were hoping that the company would be able to keep producing modest single-digit percentage gains in sales and earnings.
