The European Union’s Court of Justice stubbed out a challenge by tobacco giants Philip Morris International (NYSE: PM) and British American Tobacco (NYSEMKT: BTI) to the plain-packaging regulations and menthol-tobacco ban that became law in 2014. The EU’s Tobacco Products Directive requires all cigarette packaging to essentially look alike and requires warnings about the health hazards of smoking to cover two-thirds of the pack.
