Latest Japanese data now out 27 April
– prev +1.2% revised down from +2.0%
Better than expected headline but more than tempered by the downward revision.
The All Industries Activity Index measures the monthly change in overall production by all sectors of the Japanese economy. The index closely follows Japanese GDP and overall growth figures.

Oil an early mover today (or late US, depending on your perspective) – API weekly data showed a surprise draw in inventory (a build was expected); oil prices up after the release and managing to sustain their gains here during the session.

Despite surging commodity prices in China – which must be real and represent demand growth and price increases, right? – Aussie core inflation slowed to the weakest on record as headline prices unexpectedly fell last quarter (CPI -0.2%). RBA Rate-cut odds tripled instantly sending AUD down over 1.2% (its biggest drop in 2 months). Perhaps, just perhaps, that collossal credit injection in Q1 via China did not make it into the AsiaPac economy after all and merely fueled a speculative frenzy in commodities that merely “looks” like a recovery?

– -0.3% on the month to 117.8
– Was 118.1 in March
– Confidence is up 2.5% since the beginning of 2016, but still reads below average (119.9)
