Squawk Box Live in Europe is tracking market reaction to the latest annual growth data out of Beijing.

The private equity arm of Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N) has teamed up with Mexican consulting firm Ainda to jointly invest in energy and infrastructure projects in Mexico, a person familiar with the matter said. Goldman’s Merchant Banking Division signed a deal with Ainda in December to “identify, pursue, evaluate and make investments jointly,” according to a securities filing that was seen by Reuters and will be submitted to the bourse shortly.

A surge in socially responsible investments to $59 trillion globally over the past decade is nudging Asian firms to change a notoriously insular management style to one that actively addresses corporate governance concerns. As earnings growth and China’s economy slow, corporate executives are becoming more receptive to the investment messages from funds committed to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles.

China could demand trade sanctions against the European Union after winning an appeal on Monday in a dispute at the World Trade Organization over EU tariffs imposed on Chinese imports of screws, nuts and bolts made of iron or steel. China has never before asked the WTO to impose trade sanctions since it joined the organization in 2001, but the end of the seven-year battle leaves the way open to a claim for compensation.
