Stocks got banged up early in Thursday’s year-end session after disappointing reports on unemployment and manufacturing. The Nasdaq dug in to an 0.8% loss. The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 0.6%, and the S&P 500 shed 0.5%. Volume ticked higher on the stock market today, which is a bit unusual just before the year-end holiday. Trade rose 3% each on the Nasdaq and the NYSE, compared with action at the same time Wednesday.
