Stocks staged a valiant comeback attempt Monday afternoon that came up just a little short. The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 fell 0.2% and the Dow Jones industrial average dropped 0.1% in the stock market today. The Nasdaq had been down 1% early in the session. Volume was well below average to kick off what is traditionally the slowest week of the year. Volume was not comparable to Friday’s half-day Christmas Eve session.
