10 days of yuan declines probably isn’t as bad as you think
The PBOC limits yuan movements to 0.09% from the midpoint each day. Despite 10 days of declines, the yuan has fallen just 1.49% in the past two weeks.

Martin Shkreli, the boyish pharmaceutical entrepreneur who caused a public uproar after he drastically raised the price of a life-saving prescription drug, was arrested on Thursday for engaging in what U.S. prosecutors said was a Ponzi-like scheme at his former hedge fund and a pharmaceutical company he previously headed. Shkreli, who has become a lightning rod for growing outrage over soaring prescription drug prices, was arrested before dawn at the tony Murray Hill Tower Apartments in midtown Manhattan.

China UnionPay is a state-controlled consortium that has a monopoly on all yuan payment cards issued and used in the country. “China is an extremely important market for Apple and with China UnionPay and support from 15 of China’s leading banks, users will soon have a convenient, private and secure payment experience,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet software and services in a statement.

Among the fixed income community, this week’s most important number, more so than the pre-telegraphed 25 bps increase in the Fed’s interest rate, was the weekly report of capital flows in and out of bond funds by Lipper/EPFR, which came out moments ago and which following last week’s junk bond fund fireworks involving Third Avenue and several other gating or liquidating funds, was expected to be a doozy.
