UAW launches strike at auto supplier Nexteer’s U.S. operations
United Auto Workers union Local 699 announced the strike on its Facebook page shortly after midnight on Tuesday. About 3,200 production workers at Nexteer’s Saginaw complex were still off the job as of Tuesday afternoon, Nexteer spokesman Luis Canales said. The strike came after UAW-represented workers at the Saginaw factory voted down a proposed contract by a wide margin on Sunday.
