Asia shares rise, dollar firm on Fed, ECB views

Asian shares rose on Tuesday and the dollar held steady as U.S. markets bounced back and the European Central Bank said it was prepared to ease monetary policy further. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.4 percent at 2140 EDT, with Australia (.AXJO) advancing 0.6 percent and South Korea (.KS11) 0.3 percent. The U.S. dollar edged down after strengthening overnight on signals from some Federal Reserve officials that the central bank is likely to raise interest rates this year.
