General Motors on Tuesday expanded a safety recall from November to include about 160,000 more vehicles.

DoubleLine Capital bond king Jeffrey Gundlach:
– ‘To raise rates when junk bonds are near at a four-year low is a bad idea’
– If the Fed starts raising rates in Sept ‘it opens the lid on Pandora’s Box of tightening cycle’
This is nothing new from Gundlach.

The decline in major stock averages worsened, but they came slightly off their session lows late Tuesday. The Nasdaq pared a 0.7% loss to 0.5% and the S&P 500 trimmed a 0.4% deficit to 0.2%. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones industrial average continued to fare better with a 0.1% loss. Gains in Home Depot (HD), which reported strong earnings, and UnitedHealth Group (UNH) offset losses in Wal-Mart (WMT) and Walt Disney (DIS) in the Dow industrials.

I have seen a couple of comments around the Internet speculating that a big commodities rally is coming. Let’s look at a few charts to see if there is anything to back that up. We’ll use the Commodities iShares (GSG) as a surrogate for commodities. On the daily chart below there is a price pattern that reminds me of crude and gold, which, of course, are included in this index. There is a double bottom early this year, a rally attempt, then a failure of support, and continued decline.
