European stock and bond markets steadied on Tuesday before a euro zone leaders summit to discuss the Greek debt crisis while a further fall in Chinese shares reminded investors of other dark clouds on the horizon. Euro zone leaders meet in Brussels, awaiting proposals from Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras as his country’s banks rapidly run out of cash and the European Central Bank tightened the noose on funding. The Euro STOXX 50 index of euro zone blue-chip shares rose 0.2 percent after falling 2.2 percent on Monday.

China stocks fall again despite support measures
Chinese stocks fell on Tuesday, taking little comfort from a slew of support measures unleashed by Beijing in recent days, and unnerved by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s failure to mention the market chaos in a statement on the economy. Before the market opened, Li said in comments posted on a government website that China had the confidence and ability to deal with challenges faced by its economy, but had nothing to say on the three-week plunge that has knocked around 30 percent off Chinese shares since mid-June.

Aetna CEO addresses antitrust concerns over Humana deal
Aetna Inc’s (AET.N) chief executive said Monday he was confident any antitrust review of the health insurer’s proposed purchase of smaller rival Humana Inc (HUM.N) would allow the deal to close in the second half of 2016. Mark Bertolini said Aetna had already prepared for possible divestitures to address overlaps with Humana’s business in the largest-ever U.S. health insurance deal. Aetna has not discussed the deal directly with the U.S. Department of Justice, but has consulted with regulatory experts, Bertolini told cable channel CNBC.
