Stocks came off their morning peaks but held on to most of the day’s advance in early-afternoon trading. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 were up 0.7%, while the Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.6%. Volume was tracking substantially lower. That’s not surprising given that Friday was a quadruple witching session, when the expiration of options and futures contracts drives up trading.
