Stocks held on tightly to small gains midday Thursday. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 added 0.1% each, while the Dow Jones industrial average clung to a fractional gain. Volume was tracking mixed in the stock market today, higher on the NYSE and lower on the Nasdaq exchange.
