In an unusual example of shareholder activism in South Korea, the fund told the court Cheil’s all-stock offer was designed to pave the way for a leadership succession in the family-run Samsung conglomerate and did not serve the best interests of other shareholders.

There will be a solution to the Greek debt crisis that will allow the country to return to growth while staying in the euro zone, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Friday, as the country moved closer to the brink of default. Tsipras’s tone was strikingly upbeat given that talks over a cash-for-reforms deal for Greece remained deadlocked after a meeting of euro zone finance ministers, and bank withdrawals from Greek lenders have accelerated in the past week.

Gazprom is building a global strategic alliance with energy major Royal Dutch Shell that will include asset swaps and allow the Russian gas giant to penetrate new markets, its chief executive told Reuters. Gazprom, the world’s top gas producer, said on Thursday that Shell and its long-time gas buyers in Europe – Germany’s E.ON and Austria’s OMV – had agreed to build two new Nord Stream gas pipelines under the Baltic sea to Germany.

Airbus (AIR.PA) Chief Executive Tom Enders urged European governments not to place overly onerous political requirements on a joint project to develop drones, adding that the aerospace group could drop out if such conditions were not met. There should be one lead nation and one lead company on individual military projects, with suppliers chosen on merit, Enders told the Financial Times in an interview. “Pooling our requirements should be done intelligently and not in a highly politicized, nationally fragmented way,” said Enders, adding that he supported European co-operation.
