Stocks further improved late Monday, with tech issues continuing to outperform. The Nasdaq extended its gain to 0.6%. Chips, security software and biotech boosted the Nasdaq. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 rose 0.3% and the Dow Jones industrial average edged up 0.2%. But volume was again running lower on both major exchanges in the stock market today. In stocks, Skyworks Solutions (SWKS) pushed its gain to nearly 6%, marking a record high.
