Hyundai Motor to build second U.S. plant: report

Hyundai Motor Co has decided to build its second U.S. factory to meet demand for sport utility vehicles, South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported on Wednesday, citing an industry source familiar with the matter. The report came as Hyundai’s U.S. executives have been clamoring for more production capacity for SUVs, whose demand is rising partly thanks to lower oil prices. The new plant in Alabama would have an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles, Yonhap reported, noting it would break ground this year and start SUV production in 2017.

GE CEO Immelt gets salary, cash bonus bump for 2014

Immelt’s salary rose to $3.75 million while his cash bonus increased to $5.4 million. The GE board’s management development and compensation committee “believes that Mr. Immelt performed very well in 2014 and, as a result, awarded him a $5.4 million cash bonus,” GE said in its proxy statement. According to the proxy, the compensation committee early in 2014 raised Immelt’s base salary, effective March 1 of last year, noting that it was Immelt’s second salary increase since 2005.

KKR, a New York-based private equity firm, has prevailed over other buyout firms in the auction for Air Medical and is now in the final stages of negotiating a deal with the company’s owner, Bain Capital LLC, the people said on Tuesday. KKR and Bain declined to comment, while an Air Medical representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Based in Lewisville, Texas, Air Medical operates a fleet of 222 helicopters and 25 airplanes from locations in 27 states.

Worker group presses Target to boost hourly wage

UltraViolet, a group which advocates for women’s issues, said it has taken out online ads in three states and started an online petition pressing Target to increase its wages. The move comes on the heels of Wal-Mart’s announcement last month that it was lifting its minimum wage to $9 an hour in April and to $10 for current employees in 2016, above the federal minimum of $7.25. Gap Inc (GPS.N) had lifted its pay last year.
