Stocks remained in negative territory early Friday afternoon as weak Chinese manufacturing data and falling oil prices fanned concerns of a global economic slowdown. The Dow Jones industrial average lost 1%, the S&P 500 fell 0.6% and the Nasdaq slipped 0.2%. Volume was running 11% higher on the NYSE and 4% Nasdaq compared with the same time Thursday.
