The major stock indexes remained near their session lows late Tuesday and were on pace for a second straight loss. The Nasdaq fell 0.8% and the S&P 500 lost 0.7%. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 0.8%. Volume continued to run mixed in the stock market today. Leaders down in big volume were few. United Rentals (URI) dropped 5% after being cut to neutral from buy at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch.
