Stocks pecked narrow gains early Tuesday, on the heels of weak April retail sales and export price reports as well as a below-forecast reading on March business inventories. The Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 edged up 0.2% each. The Nasdaq fought to hold on to a 0.1% gain. The stock market today rolled out in mixed trade, with volume 11% higher on the Nasdaq and 4% lower on the NYSE compared with the same time Monday.
