Stocks held their gains in afternoon trading Wednesday as money flooded into Chinese issues. Volume was higher across the board. The Nasdaq led the way, up 0.7%. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones industrial average both gained 0.2%. Oil fell nearly 6%, giving back Tuesday’s gain, plus more. Energy stocks were weak, hurting Dow components Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX), which were both down nearly 2%.
